Maytag Epic Washer Door Locked

We placed dirty laundry in washer loaded soap and softener closed door and attempted to start normal cycle as usual.

I have a maytag epic z automatic washer. The door should unlock after 60 seconds. This is a guide about unlocking the door on a maytag front load washer. The cycle did not start and the door was then locked.

Unlocking the control panel is as simple as the touch of a button. If the door lock is defective the washer door will not latch properly. This may drain any. The door should unlock after this is complete.

Run a drain and spin cycle. The door may immediately unlock. Door lock can fail either mechanically or electrically. Pressing the power button cancels the fan dry option and unlocks the door.

Wait approximately 2 minutes for control to reset. The keys are sensitive so epic washers have a button that locks the control panel to stop accidental activation of a new option during a cycle. After plugging the washer in one of the following 3 events will happen. The door lock led light will blink.

Front loaders have a locking mechanism to avoid opening the door during a washing cycle but occasionally this lock will be activated accidentally. You may also see an f8 e1 error code. Nothing else will appear to be happening with the machine during this time.
